Two important publications on Afghanistan have been released: new UNHCR eligibility guidelines and UNAMA’s mid-year report on the protection of civilians in armed conflict. Both are available on ecoi.net:
UNHCR released its annual Global Trends report, covering displacement that occurred during 2012.
As part of the CREDO project, UNHCR published an extensive report on credibility assessment in EU asylum systems. The report also covers the use of COI for assessing credibility of statements of asylum seekers.
UNHCR released statistics on the number of asylum applications in 2012 in 44 industrialized countries, showing an increase by 8 per cent. The highest increase is reported for asylum requests from Syrians.
The Researcher is published two times a year by the Refugee Documentation Centre (RDC) in Ireland. It is a publication which combines academic papers, summaries of caselaw, guides to new legislation, reports of conferences, articles on RDC services and items of country of origin information.
The first COI report produced by the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) has been published. It focuses on Taliban recruitment strategies in Afghanistan. Along with the report, the EASO also published its methodology for COI reports.

Issue 38 of the Forced Migration Review covers the positive and negative aspects of the spread of modern technologies for researchers and agencies as well as for displaced people themselves. The issue also contains an article on access to good quality Country of Origin Information.
UNHCR published a summary report on its EU-funded project on quality of asylum procedures in nine EU member states. Additionally, a manual introducing to various elements necessary for a high quality asylum system provides annotated checklists as an aide to decision-makers.
