Information on the situation in Mogadishu in 1993, especially from February to June and on any reports of fighting, on who was in charge of the "African village" and on reports of refugees returning to the city [SOM25524.E]

Several media reports indicate that the period between February and June 1993, Mogadishu was characterised by fighting between the United States forces and forces loyal to the late General Mohamed Farah Aideed on the other (Africa Confidential 16 July 1993; L'Express 17 June 1993; Libération 21 June 1993; The Indian Ocean Newsletter 19 June 1993). Information on who was in charge of the "Africa village" and on whether refugees were returning to Somalia during this period could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB.
