IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Autor)
In correspondence dated 15 July 2002 the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Canada provided the following information.
A Pakistani national removed to Pakistan will normally be handed over to immigration authorities for completion of immigration examination and formalities. Where a deportee is sought, in Pakistan, for a criminal investigation, charges or related matters, s/he may be placed under arrest and turned over to the Federal Investigating Agency for investigation and any other necessary action. In such instances, a record may be kept by officials.
If the individual is not sought for criminal or other types of investigations, there should be no serious repercussions upon return.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
