According to the attached report from The Manchester Guardian Weekly (originally from Le Monde of 25 October 1987), the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam were accusing troops of the Indian Peace Keeping Force of having deliberately killed 100 patients and some hospital staff. Another report, this one from The Globe and Mail of 24 October 1987, also mentions the incident and the Indian Army's denial that its personnel had fired on the hospital and "killed 150 patients and 100 visitors." No further corroborating information is currently available to the IRBDC. Note that another report from The Globe and Mail, dated 15 October 1987, mentions that another battle had allegedly taken place near the Jaffna Teachers Hospital when Indian paratroopers landed in a insurgent camp located behind this hospital. No further information on this incident is currently available to the IRBDC.
