According to an article published in the Indian Ocean Newsletter of 9 July 1994, the police searched the headquarters of the All Amhara Peoples' Organization (AAPO) in Addis Ababa on 4 and 5 July 1994. This source states that its former chairman, Abebe Simeneh, and other members were jailed after having been charged. "To this must be added the numerous cases of murder and disappearance of AAPO officers, members and supporters in several parts of Ethiopia" (ibid.).

Information on whether the office was shut down for a number of days starting 9 July could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
