Information on abuses committed against members of the Pentecostal Church in Ecuador (follow-up to ECU13229) [ECU13622]

As discussed by telephone, please find attached a copy of a letter sent by the Comisión Ecuménica de Derechos Humanos (CEDHU) of Ecuador, which deals in its last part with the requested subject (26 Feb. 1993). What follows is an unofficial translation provided for your reference.

CEDHU is not aware of any cases of persecution of members of the Pentecostal Church. The headquarters of the Pentecostal Church in Quito informed CEDHU that there have been no reports of persecution of members of the Pentecostal Church in Quito or elsewhere in the country.

Please note that the DIRB uses the term "persecution" in this response solely as a translation of the Spanish term persecución, which was used in the attached letter; this translation of the term is provided by the International Thesaurus of Refugee Terminology, which is available at your Regional Documentation Centre. It is not clear from the letter whether cases of abuse have taken place that may not be defined by the sources as persecution.
