Information about demonstrations in 1989 at Chittagong University and the university's BNP student wing (leaders, activities). [BGD8209]

The news agency Reuters reported that about 150 students were injured in clashes between the Jamat-e-Islami party and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in mid-August 1989, half of them in Chittagong University alone (Reuters 16 Aug. 1989).
There were more clashes in Bangladesh in September 1989 between rival opposition factions. Reuters and the Xinhua news agency reported the death of an Awami League leader shot by rival students in Chittagong on 5 September (Reuters 8 Sept. 1989; Xinhua 7 Sept. 1989).
Information on the BNP Branch at Chittagong University is not available to the IRBDC at the present time.
