Whether a guard at the San Juan Provincial Jail would be, by virtue of that position, a member of a police force of Argentina [ARG42548.E]

In a telephone interview dated 24 March 2004, the deputy warden (susalcaide) from the San Juan Provincial Penitentiary Service (Servicio Penitenciario Provincial) provided the following information. He stated that a guard at the San Juan Provincial Jail would not and could not simultaneously be a member of a police force of Argentina. He further mentioned that prison guards were under the direction of the Provincial Penitentiary Service, while provincial police officers reported instead to the San Juan Police (Policía de San Juan).
