Azerbaijan's State Security Service (DTX) says it has killed a man suspected of planning terrorist attacks in a special operation in the town of Ismayili, northwest of the capital, Baku.

Security forces shot dead Azerbaijani national Yasar Cavadov who "planned a series of terrorist attacks" in the country, DTX said in an August 28 statement.

The statement also says that Cavadov took part in unspecified military conflicts abroad.

Cavadov fired shots at DTX officers, who returned fire and killed the suspect, it said.

Security forces also discovered documents on Cavadov which showed that he had been financed by a foreign terrorist group, the statement said without elaborating.
