According to Adam Jama Bihi, who was a
senior officer with the Central Bank of Somalia, Mohamud Jama Ahmed
was the Governor of the Central Bank of Somalia between 1978-1983
(5 Dec. 1991).
Mohamud Jama Ahmed was the Minister of
Information under the first government of Siad Barre in 1969
(Ibid.). In the early 1970's, Mohamud Jama Ahmed was the
President of the Somalia Development Bank and was moved to the
position of Governor of the Central Bank of Somalia in the late
1970's until about 1985 (Ibid.). This information was
corroborated by a Somali professor at Syracuse University in New
York and a former officer at the Somalia Development Bank who now
resides in Ottawa (6 Dec. 1991).
All three sources cannot recall if Mohamud
Jama Ahmed was a member or head of the Economic Council and
mentioned that Barre's regime had experienced several shuffles
during its last years in power (Ibid., 5 Dec. 1991).
However, all three sources reported that Mohamud Jama Ahmed was a
member of the Central Committee Party and a member of the
Parliament up to January 1991 (Ibid.).
Corroborating information from published
sources regarding the above subject is currently unavailable to the
IRBDC.
