Recent information on Pamyat [RUS12156]

INTERFAX reported on a Moscow meeting of the national-patriotic front Pamyat (Memory) during which the present leader of Pamyat, Dmitriy Vasilyev, expressed his satisfaction with the present development of rightist forces (6 Oct. 1992). Dmitriy Vasilev stated that the national-patriotic movement has managed to band together (Ibid.). Vasilyev was critical of the fact that Russia's state structures are run by non-Russians (Ibid.). The meeting of Pamyat lasted three days, and its aim was to outline a program for the "cleansing of the country" (Ibid.).

On 14 October 1992, KURANTY reported that armed Pamyat members attacked the editorial offices of Moskovskiy Komsomolets while a meeting was being held. The Pamyat emissaries overpowered the security guards, disrupted the meeting and behaved like "bandits" (KURANTY, 14 Oct. 1992). According to INTERFAX, the mayor and the government of the capital denounced the attack (INTERFAX, 14 Oct. 1992). The Toronto Star reported on 10 February 1992 that Pamyat now has its own radio station.

Please find attached several documents relating to the activities of Pamyat. Additional information on this subject is currently unavailable to the DIRB.
