Information on the current situation of the Securitate additional to that contained in Response to Information Request ROM14731 of 12 July 1993 [ROM15734.E]

According to a report in The New York Times, the Securitate was officially disbanded in December 1989 (13 June 1993). The Romanian Information Service (RIS) and Romanian Foreign Intelligence were established in March 1990 as successor agencies to the Securitate (Ibid.).
