Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 1991 states that [i]n May [1991] the advocate general of Punjab argued that parents who raise their children as Ahmadis are inciting their children to apostasy and are punishable by law as committing a capital crime. The Lahore High Court upheld the Government's prohibition of the centenary celebration of the Ahmadi sect, which was scheduled to be held in Rabwah in March, 1989, claiming the celebration would have caused public disorder (1992, 1559-1560).
