Information specific to a 12 June 1994
demonstration in Lagos organized by the National Coalition for
Democracy (NADECO) and the Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) could
not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB.
However, in a 9 June 1997 telephone interview the London branch
secretary of NADECO stated that between May 1994 and November 1994,
NADECO and the CLO organized series of in Lagos and other parts of
Nigeria. The secretary explained that civil disobedience reached a
climax during the months of June, July and August 1994. For
additonal information on the demonstrations during these months,

A 20-24 June 1994 West Africa
article states that in a 12 June 1994 broadcast to the nation, the
president, General Sani Abacha, warned that Nigeria would not allow
an individual or group to "hold the country to ransom" (1087).
According to this source the group referred to was NADECO.
