A May 1994 demonstration in Lagos including treatment by the police [NGA33075.E]

A 5 May 1994 Associated Press (AP) report states that a convoy of about 100 oil tankers drivers were heading "to the office of the military governor to protest the alleged seizure of two tankers by soldiers."

Two tanker truck drivers reportedly collided and one of the tankers burst into fire. Eight protesters reportedly died and six others were hospitalised in the incident.

No reports or additional information on the demonstration and the treatment of demonstrators by the police could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
