Information on the disappearance of a lawyer in San Pedro Sula in August 1993, and on the subsequent investigation initiated by CODEH [HND17809.E]

In a letter dated 17 June 1994, a lawyer and senior staff member at the Comité para la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos en Honduras (CODEH) stated that CODEH, after reviewing its files, could find no information on the disappearance or assassination of a lawyer in Honduras during 1993. The letter states that two cases of threats against lawyers were recorded by CODEH in 1993, one involving Linda Lizie Rivera, the prosecuting lawyer in a case involving the rape and murder of a schoolgirl, and the other concerning the human rights commissioner of the Government of Honduras, Leo Valladares Lanza.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
