Following is a text from a 29 March 1989
report by the British Broadcasting Corporation:
"Students 'rioted' at the university campus
in Mogadishu on 27th March in protest at the way in which exams
were being conducted, Mogadishu radio reported. A Ministry of
Information and National Guidance spokesman said: 'The students
attempted to march from the university to the city centre, but they
were confronted by the security forces'. On 28th March, the radio
reported that Somalian Prime Minister Muhammad Ali Samatur had
received the students and heard 'accounts of their grievances'. The
Prime Minister said the government would 'do something to meet
their demands and some of the university examination methods would
be changed,." [
