Information on student demonstration at the university campus in Mogadishu, Somalia. [SOM2596]

Following is a text from a 29 March 1989 report by the British Broadcasting Corporation:

"Students 'rioted' at the university campus in Mogadishu on 27th March in protest at the way in which exams were being conducted, Mogadishu radio reported. A Ministry of Information and National Guidance spokesman said: 'The students attempted to march from the university to the city centre, but they were confronted by the security forces'. On 28th March, the radio reported that Somalian Prime Minister Muhammad Ali Samatur had received the students and heard 'accounts of their grievances'. The Prime Minister said the government would 'do something to meet their demands and some of the university examination methods would be changed,." [
