In a 16 January 1996 letter sent to the
DIRB, the Attaché in Charge of Consular Affairs at the
Embassy of Turkey in Ottawa provided the following information:
1) In order to obtain Turkish citizenship,
a person must make an application to the Governor of the city or
district in Turkey where he is residing. If residing outside
Turkey, he or she must apply to the nearest Turkish Consulate.
2) Not automatically. It requires the
decision of the Council of Ministers.
3) Yes. Those who have applied have
obtained Turkish citizenship.
A copy of the attachés 's letter is
attached to this Response.

researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does
