Roadside Bombing Kills 12 Civilians In Eastern Afghanistan

May 31, 2014

Afghan officials say 12 civilians, including seven women, have been killed in a roadside bombing in eastern Afghanistan.

The attack took place on May 31 in the Giro district of Ghazni Province.

District Governor Abdullah Khairkhwah said the victims were travelling after a wedding ceremony when their vehicle hit the bomb.

Two other civilians were also wounded in the explosion.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the blast.

Roadside bombs -- commonly used by Taliban militants -- are a major threat to both Afghan security forces and civilians across the country.
