A student or political group in San Andres called Nuevo Archipielago, which would have supported the gubernatorial candidacy of Ralph Newball Sotelo (1997-1998) [COL31433.E]

No information on a group called Nuevo Archipielago could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

According to information provided during a 10 March 1999 telephone interview by staff of the Departmental Delegation of the Civil Registry of Colombia in San Andrés, a federal public entity responsible for keeping civilian records and electoral information in the Department of San Andrés, Providencia y Santa Catalina, Ralph Julio Newball Sotelo was a gubernatorial candidate for the Movimiento Educacion, Trabajo y Cambio Social (Education, Work and Social Change Movement) in 1997. The Departmental Delegation staff had no record of a student or political group called Nuevo Archipielago. The staff indicated that the island of Providencia had a political movement called Pro-Rescate del Archipielago (Pro-Rescue of the Archipielago).
