Suicide Attack West Of Baghdad Kills At Least Six

May 02, 2015

An Iraqi official says a suicide attack west of the capital, Baghdad, has killed at least six people.

The Associated Press quoted an unnamed police officer as saying the attacker drove an explosive-rigged car on May 2 into a military headquarters in the town of Garma, where government forces and allied militias have been battling Islamic State (IS) militants.

He said the dead included at least three soldiers.

The report could not be independently verified.

Iraq has been trying to dislodge militants from Garma with the help of air strikes from a U.S.-led international coalition as well as its own troops and allied militias.

Security forces have reported slow progress in recent weeks.
