Update to Response to Information Request BGD23982.E of 22 May 1996 on whether anyone has been convicted in the 25 May 1995 shooting death of Sheikh Abdul Kashem, Jatiya Party (JP) General Secretary of Khulna city unit [BGD28009.E]

According to the attached article from the Dhaka daily The Bangladesh Observer, on 8 October 1995 police arrested Abdul Gaffar Biswas, Jatiya Party (JP) "unit leader" of Khulna, in connection with the 25 May 1995 killing of Sheikh Abdul Kashem, former Khulna city unit general secretary (9 Oct. 1995, 1). The attachment reports that Biswas was "later" jailed (ibid.). His arrest was "condemned" by JP Secretary General Anwar Hossain Monju (ibid.).

Corroborating information could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
