The status of the JVP in the area of Colombo. [LKA5534]

According to an article published in The Round Table by Bruce Matthews, a noted Canadian expert on Sinhalese politics, the JVP is only an occasional nuisance in Colombo, closing shops and public transport for a day every month or so. No information is currently available to the IRBDC which mentions specific activity by the JVP in Colombo. Attached is a series of articles which refer to a JVP presence in the city.

We are also attaching, for your information, a copy of response to information request # 5437 (Current developments relating to the JVP) and attachments, 9 May 1990.
