Three Dead In Afghan Suicide Bomb

December 26, 2012
Three people are reported to have been killed in a Taliban suicide car bombing in the eastern Afghan city of Khost, near Afghanistan’s border with Pakistan.

The blast occurred outside the U.S. military’s Forward Operating Base Chapman on December 26.

Officials said the bomber did not succeed in entering the base or breaching its perimeter.

Khost police chief Abdul Qayoom Baqizoi told RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan that three Afghan workers at the base were killed, and two other Afghan workers injured.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has claimed responsibility for the militants.

The Chapman base is the same base where an Al-Qaeda-linked double agent was blamed for killing seven U.S. CIA employees in a bombing three years ago.
