Update to Response to Information Request ALB25212.E of 23 October 1996 on whether ethnic Albanians from Kosova have been accepted as refugees since 1992 [ALB26296.E]

In a telephone interview on 23 January 1997, an official at the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Washington stated the following:

The Albanian government considers that the ethnic Albanians in Kosova are under Serbian occupation and subject to expulsion from Kosova. Therefore, the Albanian government does not grant them refugee status.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
