Information on the Movimiento de Democracia Popular (MDP), including instances of political repression, 1993-94 [VEN18772.E]

In addition to the information available through your Regional Documentation Centre, the Movimiento de Democracia Popular (MDP) is mentioned briefly in the 29 July 1993 issue of Latin American Regional Reports: Andean Group. The report describes the MDP's leader, Gabriel Puerta Aponte, as "the latest arrival" in the presidential race that took place later that year. Another report states that Gabriel Puerta Aponte obtained 3,746 votes or 0.06 per cent of total votes cast in the presidential election (BBC Summary 13 Dec. 1993).
