Information on whether members of the
National tennis team have been involved in steroid use at
international matches is currently unavailable to the IRBDC in
Ottawa.
Moreover, this type of information is not
likely to be publicized or even admitted by official sources. The
Medical Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in
Lausanne, Switzerland, was unable to provide any information on the
matter due to the fact that most IOC officials were still in
Barcelona or on vacation following the 1992 Olympic Games (14 Aug.
1992). The IOC informed us, however, that it would only be able to
provide us with recent results (since steroid tests have been
carried out systematically only recently) on the use of steroids by
Chinese Olympic participants (14 Aug. 1992). A recent article
indicates that a member of the Chinese volleyball team tested
positive at the 1992 Olympic Games (UPI 5 Aug. 1992). A marathon
runner, a dressage rider and a table tennis player of unspecified
nationalities were also to be barred from the Olympic Games
(Ibid.).
Additional or corroborative information is
currently unavailable to the IRBDC in Ottawa.
