Gunmen Storm Kabul Building; Car Bomber Attacks NATO

Gunmen have stormed a building on the eastern side of Kabul in an attack that has included the use of explosives and guns.

Authorities said a battle against the militants was continuing in the early afternoon of July 7, with Afghan security forces sent to the area near an installation used by Afghanistan’s intelligence agency.

The attack began just hours after a suicide car bomber targeted a convoy of NATO forces in the eastern part of the capital on the morning of July 7.

Police spokesman Ebadullah Karimi said three people were injured in Kabul’s Shah Shaheed area by the suicide car bomber -- including at least one civilian and the driver of an armored vehicle with foreign troops.

NATO said none of its troops was killed by the attack.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the suicide car bomb attack.
