Daghestani Investigator Killed In Bombing Attack

An official of the Investigative Committee's branch in the capital of Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Daghestan, Makhachkala, has been killed in a bomb attack.

Russia's Investigative Committee officials in Makhachkala say that Ramazan Ramazanov died in hospital after he sustained serious injuries in the October 24 attack.

Also on October 24, an improvised explosive device went off near the Russian internal troops' convoy on a Khasavyurt-Babayurt motorway in Daghestan. No one was hurt in that incident.

The North Caucasus has become Russia's most violence-plagued region in recent years.

Militants in Daghestan, Ingushetia, Chechnya, and Kabardino-Balkaria frequently attack police, moderate Muslims, and local officials, saying they are fighting to create an Islamic state in southern Russia.
