Iran's IRGC Says It Killed Four Militants Near Border With Pakistan

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has killed four militants on the Saravan border crossing close to Pakistan in the southeastern Sistan-Baluchistan province.

In a September 28 statement published by Iranian state media, the IRGC said "Iranian forces killed four terrorists and wounded two."

"Other members of the terrorist group fled to the neighboring country," the statement said while adding that the group was linked to the "world’s arrogant power."

Iranian officials often use the term to refer to the United States and its allies.

Iranian security forces frequently clash with militants and drug traffickers in Sistan-Baluchistan. The province lies on a major smuggling route for Afghan opium and heroin.

The IRGC warned that it will counter any attempt by terrorist groups funded by "foreign spy agencies" to create instability in the country.

Iran has accused Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) and also the United States of being behind last week's deadly attack on a military parade in the southwest of the country that killed 25, including members of the IRGC and civilians.

Saudi Arabia, the U.A.E. and the U.S. have denied any involvement in the incident.

The extremist group Islamic State (IS) as well as a separatist umbrella group calling itself the Ahvaz National Resistance have claimed responsibility for the attack.
