Municipal elections in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, since 1996, including the names of elected officials and their parties, and whether there are reports of candidates of the Party for the Democratic Revolution (PRD) being harassed (1995-1998) [MEX31858.E]

The secretary at the Municipal Agency (Agencia Municipal) of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, provided the following information in a 7 May 1999 telephone interview with the Research Directorate.

The Municipal Agency of Puerto Escondido depends on the municipality of San Pedro Mixtepec. The current municipal agency is composed of one municipal agent, Guilelbaldo Mijangos Calvo, and three district councillors (cabildos), Miguel Rodriguez, Fortino Carbajal Navaro and Luis Alvarez, all from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). Their mandates began on 18 January 1999. Prior to this agency, the agents for the period between 1996 and 1998 were Lorenzo Hernandez and Eduardo Ortiz Jones Lopez both of the PRI and the district councillor was Nicolas Ramirez Aragon, also of the PRI.

Additional and/or corroborating information on the municipal elections in Puerto Escondido could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

No reports on whether candidates of the Party for Democratic Revolution (PRD) were harassed from 1995 to 1998 could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
