IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Autor)
In a telephone interview with the Research Directorate on 23 November 2004, a Consular Officer of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in Ottawa, indicated that there is no date of issue shown on the Shenasnameh, irrespective of whether it is an original or a replacement, or whether it was issued pre- or post-1992. No date of issue has ever been indicated on a Shenasnameh because unlike a passport, the Shenasnameh does not have an expiry date and therefore is not valid for a specified period of time (such as a passport) (Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran 23 Nov. 2004).
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection.
