Bei diesen handelt es sich zum einen um die „Volkspartei (Georgiens)“ (engl.: „People’s Party (of Georgia)“, russ.: „Народная партия (Грузии)“), zum andern um die Gruppierung „Volkspartei der Republik Südossetien“ (engl.: „People’s Party of the Republic of South Ossetia“; russ.: „Народная партия Республики Южная Осетия“) und deren Splittergruppen.

„The police parade in Georgia has triggered civil confrontation. First victims beaten with police batons have been taken to hospitals. Patrols and special forces were stoned which made law-enforcement officers offer resistance. This is ‘people's love’ for the ministry that Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili boasts of. Today the Georgian opposition answers phone calls from friends with half of it celebrating Giorgoba holiday, and the other half attending a police anti-parade. However, we managed to get Nana Kakabadze chairing Former Prisoners For Human Rights group over the phone. She only said she was in a hospital where two injured persons had been taken to after dispersion of the protest rally over the Police Day. Later the names of the patients were reported. This is Kakha Berishvili, a member of the People's Party youth branch and Bidzina Gegidze, a Defend Georgia movement member with his leg badly stoned.  As Eka Beselia, leader of Solidarity with Political Prisoners social organization in charge of the rally said, the clash was provoked by persons hired on purpose. ‘We did not break constitutional order. We had the right to be where we were... and the police blocked the roads even where the parade was not marching. We didn't ask for confrontation, violence was not on our mind. The provocation was carried out by people wearing civil clothes and standing behind special forces who started stoning. Naturally the opposition began to protect themselves’, - she explained. […] According to pro-governmental media the bloodshed was provoked by the opposition led by ‘Kremlin gang’ - Nino Burdzhanadze, Zurab Nogaideli, Georgy and Levan Gachechiladze, Koba Davitashvili, Kakha Kukava, Zviad Dzidziguri, Koka Guntsadze, Eka Beselia’.” (Georgia Times, 6. Mai 2010)

„Alexandre Shalamberidze, one of the leaders of the People’s Party, has been arrested during clashes between the police and the leaders of the National Council. Several more activists are also detained. There whereabouts are unknown. Road is opened by now in Digomi district. The leaders of the National Council say they will lock Rustaveli avenue tomorrow if detainees are not released. According to Zurab Noghaideli, leader of the Movement for Fair Georgia, the government’s provocations will not be left without response. The incident is already over by now. The leaders of the National Council locked Beliashvili street in Digomi district after they were not let in the sealed printing house ‘Tbiliselebi’ to take their pre-election documents from there.“ (InterpressNews, 8. April 2010)
“Georgian police briefly arrested opposition leader Aleksandr Shalamberidze in Tbilisi today, RFE/RL's Georgian Service reports. Shalamberidze, one of the leaders of the opposition National Council, was arrested as he and some colleagues tried to enter the Tbilisian Publishing House offices, which have been sealed by authorities. Police said he was reprimanded and released a short time later. His colleagues were still being held. Opposition leaders say local authorities are putting pressure on the publishing house because it prints their election campaign materials. Local elections are scheduled for May 30. The chairman of the opposition People's Party, Koba Davitashvili, had threatened that opposition activists would block Tbilisi's central Rustaveli Avenue if Shalamberidze was not released. The National Council unites several opposition parties.” (RFE/RL, 8. April 2010)
“The [Tbilisi] city court has released activists of the National Council [opposition coalition consisting of the Conservative Party, the People's Party and former Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli's pro-Russian For a Just Georgia party]. Seven of them were fined 400 lari [about 240 dollars] while the political secretary of the People's Party, Aleksandre Shalamberidze, was issued a verbal warning over his violation of public order. The activists had been detained at the Tbiliselebi printing house in Dighomi [Tbilisi neighbourhood]. The leaders of the National Council had attempted to enter the printing house. Noghaideli, [People's Party leader Koba] and [Conservative leader Zviad] Dzidziguri say they were not being given the questionnaires they had had printed for a public survey. The printing house was not working today, so the security guards had to call in the Patrol Police to stop the National Council's leaders' attempt to forcefully break into the building. The opposition representatives then attempted to block off Beliashvili Street and it was for this reason that law-enforcers arrested their supporters. The leaders of the constituent political forces of the National Council protested at the detainment of their activists and then went to the city court. The leaders of the National Council spoke openly today about a repeat of the Kyrgyzstan scenario [violent coup] and an expected revolution.” (Rustavi-2 TV, 8. April 2010)
