Follow-up to MEX42465.FE of 26 February 2004 on a religious sect called 'santería', including its practices and the number of its members; whether members are harassed; whether the sect is legally recognized by the authorities (February-July 2004) [MEX42866.FE]

In correspondence sent to the Research Directorate on 13 May 2004, the director of regulations (Director de Normatividad) at the Department of Religious Associations (Dirección General de Asociaciones Religiosas) of the federal government in Mexico said that 'santería' is not officially recognized in Mexico.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection.
