No reports of a cooperative of independent
bus drivers/operators known as ASCOMINS could be found among the
sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
Please note that a 29 October 1990 U.P.I.
article reports a country wide bus strike in El Salvador. The
article states that "although the FMLN has some support among
workers, small businessmen such as bus and gasoline station owners
have not traditionally supported them."
The Europa World Yearbook 1998
reports that some unions such as the bus owners are affiliated to
the Federación Nacional de Empresas Pequeñas
Salvadoreñas3/4FENAPES, the association of small businesses
(1998, 1247). Despite many attempts, the Research Directorate was
unable to contact FENAPES' office in San Salvador with the
telephone number provided by a San Salvador directory assistance
operator. The operator also stated in a 19 January 1999 enquiry,
that there is no listing for a cooperative named ASCOMINS in San
Salvador.
This Response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is
not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any
particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the
list of additional sources consulted in researching this
Information Request.
