Information on the above-mentioned topic is
scarce among the sources consulted by the DIRB.
According to the 24 August 1996 AP
Worldstream attachment, three unions, including the National
Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), were banned and their
assets seized by the military government. All three unions have
been striking to protest a "variety of ills in the education system
that they blame on government mismanagement and neglect"
(ibid.).
This Response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does
not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular
claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of
additional sources consulted in researching this Information
Request.
