Information on what age or number of years of service is required of an employee of the Sri Lankan government or government agency in order to qualify for pension benefits [LKA19653.E]

According to an official at the High Commission of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Ottawa, under the Pensions Act of Sri Lanka, a government or government agency employee must complete ten years of service in the government before he or she is eligible for pension benefits (1 Feb. 1995). The same official stated that the law does not require that a government or government agency employee reach a minimum age before they can apply (ibid.). The DIRB is unable to corroborate this information at the present time.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
