Swedish Radio Journalist Shot Dead In Kabul

A journalist for Swedish Radio has been shot dead in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul.

Officials said Nils Horner was shot in the head near a Lebanese restaurant in an affluent area of Kabul in broad daylight on March 11.

He died later in a hospital.

The head of the Kabul Criminal Investigation Department, Sayed Gul Agha Hashimi, said two suspects have been arrested.

The motive for the killing wasn’t immediately clear.

A Taliban spokesman said its militants were not involved.

Swedish Radio's Chief Executive Cilla Benko said Horner, who covered mainly Asia and the Middle East, was one of the station’s "best and most experienced correspondents."

He was said to be in his early 50s.

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt eulogized him as a "very experienced and respected journalist."
Sweden's ambassador to Afghanistan told the French AFP news agency that Horner had both Swedish and British citizenship.
