The only published reference found on possible protection measures for relatives of military officers or persons targeted by the Shining Path or the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA), beyond the information provided in PER27146.E of 20 June 1997 and PER27362.E of 30 July 1997, refers to naval or naval intelligence officers serving at the Callao naval base, which includes a maximum security jail for terrorists and also holds former presidential advisor Vladimiro Montesinos: according to the Peruvian weekly Caretas, the names of officers serving there are kept confidential, to protect them and their relatives against possible reprisals (11 Oct. 2001).
No published references to targeting by the Shining Path or the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) of relatives of officers or retired military officers involved in anti-guerrilla missions in the 1990's could be found among the sources consulted.
