Serbia To Open Its First Gay Shelter

Serbia plans to open its first shelter for gays and lesbians, local media report.
 
Dusica Davidovic, an official in the southern city of Nis told the"Juzna Srbija" (Southern Serbia) online publication on February 22 that the area needs a safe house, where gays and lesbians could seek protection from harassment.
 
The gay community frequently faces threats and attacks in the conservative Balkan country.
 
Serbia has pledged to protect sexual minorities' rights as the nation seeks to join the European Union.
