Specific information relating to Ahmed
Waliye is currently unavailable to the DIRB but it is worthy to
note that the leadership of WSLF has changed hands. According to
Revolutionary and Dissident Movements (Degenhardt 1988,
104), the first congress of the Western Somali Liberation Front
(WSLF) was held in 1975 in Badhiweyne on the Somalian side of the
border with Ethiopia, and Abdi-Nasir Sheikh Abdullahi was the
secretary general. Degenhardt (1988) does not list the date of the
WSLF's foundation nor the names of its founding members.

Confidential of 20 July 1983 states that the ex-president of
Somalia, Siyad Barre, attempted to replace the secretary general of
the WSLF, Mohamed Diriye Urdoh, with his own appointee, Mohamed
Marjerteen. Apparently this manoeuvre failed, and the assistant to
Mohamed Diriye Urdoh, Abdinasir Sheikh Adan, then became the
secretary general (Ibid.). A report broadcast by the
clandestine Voice of the WSLF and Abo Liberation Fronts Somali and
published in the FBIS bulletin of information (20 January 1988)
indicates that the following officials were elected to the
Executive Committee of the WSLF:
