The Punjab Police Website indicates that Punjab Armed Police (PAP) Jalandhar is the headquarters of the PAP and that it is "the only place where armed policemen of Punjab are trained and assigned important and complex duties" (Punjab Police n.d.a.).
The Website also states that all "officers and men of Punjab Police, before their induction into commando battalions, are given three months' basic commando training at Police Commando Training School (PCTS), Fort Bahadurgarh Patiala" (ibid. n.d.b.). Bahadurgarh is a suburb of Patiala city (ibid. n.d.c.).
Both Punjab Armed Police and Punjab Commando Police are part of the Special Police, which also includes Indian Reserve Battalions (ibid. n.d.d.).
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
