According to an official at the Embassy of
Switzerland in Ottawa, a foreigner who holds a valid Swiss
residence permit may return to live in Switzerland after travelling
abroad if he/she returns to Switzerland within six months of having
left the country (9 Mar. 1993).
Article 36 of the Federal Law on the
Acquisition and Loss of Swiss Nationality of 29 September 1952
also indicates that a foreigner's "residency ends if the foreigner
leaves Switzerland having announced his departure to the police or
having stayed abroad for more than six months." Please find a copy
of Article 36 attached.
