The information that follows was provided
by deputy Jose Albornoz, head of the Causa Radical (Causa-R) party
of Venezuela, during a 30 July 1996 telephone interview with the
DIRB.
For some years (including 1993) Fabio
Fasano has been an active member of Causa-R. He, like other
relatively well-known party members, could have written letters
certifying or confirming a person's affiliation to the party in any
particular parish or location in late 1993. The source pointed out
that the writing and signing of such letters of accreditation are
not a responsibility that is formally granted or limited to a
particular party member; they are made as circumstances require, by
party members who have the necessary standing and credibility
within Causa-R. The party head's office could not find any record
of such a letter or certificate being requested from or issued by
Mr. Fasano in October 1993; nevertheless, the source noted that
this does not necessarily mean he did not sign any such letter or
certificate at that time.
Finally, the deputy stated that Causa-R is
interested in discussing in person (not by telephone, due to
privacy and security concerns) any alleged cases of abuses
committed against its members, as it is in his party's interest to
verify and address any such problems when they occur.
This Response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does
not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular
claim to refugee status or asylum.
