Information on what names appear on border crossings between China and Vietnam, and on what documentation is required to be presented to Chinese and to Vietnamese authorities by a citizen of China at border crossings [CHN23493.E]

Information on what names appear on border crossings between China and Vietnam could not be found among the sources consulted by DIRB.

The Consul-General of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Ottawa stated that when crossing from China into Vietnam,

according to regulations of the Chinese Government, a citizen of the People's Republic of China should present the border official his/her valid passport and a valid visa of the country he/she is going to before leaving the Chinese territory (27 Feb. 1996).

According to the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam,

A citizen of the People's Republic of China would have to provide his/her passport/travel document to the Vietnamese border officials before being allowed to enter Vietnam territory. And according to the agreement reached by the two sides in February 1992, entry and exit visa for this person would be immuned if he/she travels to Vietnam on an official mission. A Chinese citizen traveling to Vietnam for a private business (tourist, doing business, private visit) has to apply for and obtain visa at the Vietnamese Ambassy (sic) in Pekin before going to Vietnam. Citizens of the two countries living along the border line between the two country (sic) may have special permit (instead of visa) to cross the border (27 Mar. 1996).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
