The maritime insurance industry; whether it is state or private sector and whether it was associated with cases of corruption and/or fraud (1998-2001) [ROM38139.E]

Information on the maritime insurance industry in Romania is scarce among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

However, there are references to insurance companies which offer maritime insurance in Romania. For example, the Budapest-based Insurance and Reinsurance Company ASTRA S.A. is a joint-stock company with 70 per cent of its social capital owned by the State Ownership Fund, 29.39 per cent by financial investment companies and 1.61 per cent by private individuals (ASTRA n.d.). ARDAF Insurance Reinsurance S.A.is a Cluj-Napoca-based insurance company whose capital is privately-owned (ARDAF n.d.). Anglo-Romanian Insurance Company S.A. was established in Bucharest in August 1993 as a private joint venture with majority foreign capital and ownership (Anglo-Romanian Insurance n.d.).

No information on whether the maritime insurance industry was associated with cases of corruption and/or fraud could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
