TEXT SIZE - +
NATO has confirmed that a civilian helicopter crashed in southern Afghanistan today.

Afghan police officials said three passengers died in the crash.

The coalition said the crash site had been secured and that coalition forces were trying to gather more information about what had happened.

It declined to comment on the cause of the crash or whether there had been any casualties.

It is uncertain whether the helicopter was shot down or suffered technical failings.

Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, a Taliban spokesman, has claimed that insurgents downed the aircraft and that all onboard were killed.
