The names of the vice-chancellor and the
registrar of the University of Lagos in 1985 are currently
unavailable to the DIRB; however, the following information on the
vice-chancellor and the registrar of the university in 1991 and
1993 may be useful. The vice-chancellor of the university in 1991
was Professor N.O. Alao and the registrar was Dr. A.A. Omotoso
(The World of Learning 1991 1991, 1009). These same
individuals occupied the same positions in 1993 (The World of
Learning 1993 1993, 1070-71). The academic year for the
university begins in October and ends in June (Ibid.).
According to a professor of African
Politics at the University of Texas in Houston, the undergraduate
degree in political science offered by the University of Lagos is a
"Bachelor of Science" (23 Aug. 1993). The source states that since
the degree documents are not issued to students on the day of
graduation, testimonials signed by the registrar are initially
issued to students. The degree itself is signed by the
vice-chancellor and the registrar (Ibid.).
The same source states that the coat of
arms of the University of Lagos consists of two circles within a
circle. The top circle contains a rising sun with five rays around
it, the middle section displays an open book, and the bottom
section contains three dashes. The colour of the coat of arms is
blue (Ibid.).
Additional and/or corroborative information
on the requested subject could not be found among the sources
currently available to the DIRB in Ottawa.
