An event held on 1 September 2004 in Ankara to mark "World Peace Day," including attendance, venue, organizations involved, and any reports of arrests of demonstrators [TUR43514.E]

Information on an event held on 1 September 2004 in Ankara to mark "World Peace Day" was scarce among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate. A 1 September 2004 Anatolia News Agency article noted that former parliamentarians from the banned Democracy Party (DEP) had delivered a statement of peace and reform at a press conference in Ankara on "World Peace Day." The Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (HRFT) reported that on the occasion of "World Peace Day," a group of people, including members of the musical band Grup Yorum, had attempted to deliver a press statement in front of the Justice Ministry in Ankara but were "hindered" by police (September 2004). There was no further information on the incident in the HRFT monthly report.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection.
